Competitions for 2011/12

As most of you will be aware, it was agreed at the AGM to change to how we run competitions for this season. The change affects the 6 league competitions in that each member is allowed a maximum of 2 prints and 2 digital images per competition. In the past the best 2 scoring images out of the maximum 3 counted towards the Print and DPI competitions. For this season all will count although it will still be the best of 5 from 6 competitions that will count. All entries for the 6 competitions will still count towards the Photographer of the Year. This will reviewed at the end of the season.

It was also agreed to split the club into 3 sections, namely Beginners, Intermediate and Advanced. You should already have been notified which section you are in.

As with last year we will be running 6 league competitions, 3 will be open and 3 themed and the details of these are below. In addition we will also be running our Print and DPI of the Year competitions and in this all members are permitted to enter 3 of each.

And finally as started last year, we will be holding an AV competition. It is on an open theme and all entries must contain at least one soundtrack. Members are limited to one entry of no more than 5 minutes in duration.

The full list of competitions is as follows:
- Competition 1 – Open – 3rd October – Entries by 19th September
- Competition 2 – People In The Landscape – 7th November – Entries by 24th October
- Competition 3 – Open – 5th December – Entries by 21st November
- Competition 4 – Photomerge – 9th Jan – Entries by 19th December
- Competition 5 – Open – 6th February – Entries by 23rd January
- Competition 6 – Landmarks – 5th March – Entries by 20th February
- Print of the Year – Open – 2nd April – Entries by 19th March
- DPI of the Year – Open – 16th April – Entries by 2nd April
- AV Competition – Open – 7th May – Entries by 16th April

With Open competitions it is up to each member to choose their own subject for each of their images. There are no restrictions other than the image cannot have appeared in a previous club competition.

For the Print & DPI of the Year competitions you are permitted to reuse images previously submitted as long as they have not been in a previous Print or DPI of the Year competition. You cannot submit the same image into both competitions.

For ‘People In the Landscape” all images must be some form of traditional landscape image and contain a person or people. How wide or narrow the landscape is, will be up to each member to decide.

For the ‘Photomerge’ competition you are required to design a cover. This could be for a book, a magazine a DVD and so on. The design must include at least two images and some text. All images used must be your own work. You can submit 2 designs as prints and two as DPI entries.

With the ‘Landmarks’ competition we announced previously that the three landmarks in question are:
1. Loggerheads Country Park (within the boundaries of the park)
2. The Mostyn Funship (must show all visible or part of the ship)
3. River Dee at Chester (between the racecourse and the Boathouse Pub)

For this competition you can again submit up to 2 prints and/or 2 digital images. However to enter all 4 you must use each of the named landmarks at least once and you can only use each landmark once in each category. All other club rules will remain as per the club rulebook, an updated version of which will be in your club handbooks which you will receive on renewing your membership. Any queries regarding the competitions should be directed to Chris Noble or Ian Parker. Mike Catania can also assist with any queries regarding which section you belong to.
