Forum Challenge - Test site

Post by Paul Harper on Mon Nov 12, 2012 9:56 pm

Before we launch another challenge it might be useful to do a dummy run so members can tryout uploading images.`

Here is one I did earlier!

It is refreshing to find out I still remember how to do it.

Uploading Method

There may be other ways to upload but I have found this method to be foolproof.

Before you upload it is safer to resize your JPEG image to be 640 pixels wide and 72 pixels/inch

Step 1

Step 2

Step 3

Step 4

Step 5

Step 6

I have bookmarks for upload site http://www.servimg.com/index.php the forum http://moldcc.forums-free.info/c2-discussions-area and the Chat box http://moldcc.forums-free.info/chatbox/index.forum? set in my Firefox browser. One could use any other site to host images but the www.servimg.com site does reduce image sizes although not always enough.

The main idea is fun and clearly spending two hours processing an image only to then miss deadline is no fun so most post many images through the night.

Unlike the club competitions there are no rules for the judge and if you produce a laugh then just as likely to win as with work of art.

Speed is in some ways important as I got my shower image in just before Pam so stole the idea. Can't believe how many salt and pepper pots have got into the challenge.

Looking forward to the restart maybe I should visit Iliff on the night and access with his PC? It would give me a new set of items to use!

Some lovely cavities forming there and standing dead wood too. Exactly what we are told a woodland needs to attract insects and birds I wonder where it is?

I must admit it took a few attempts before I got the hang of it. May be we should arrange a time to test the http://moldcc.forums-free.info/chatbox/index.forum? chat box. As when the challenge is on you can ask for help on the chat box.

That's a great idea!

The photo was taken at Maes Hafyn woods near Loggerheads about 3 weeks ago!

We have just done shadows and you didn't show off that great cave photo? That is good. I am assuming this Panoramio entry is yours. I would be proud of that. Fancy moving down stream a little and joining us at Coed Nant Gain. There is an open invitation to Mold Camera Club just ring Iliff on 01352 741039 so when he sees you he knows who it is.

I need more material for web site at http://freetheforest.org/index.html I am in the process of building and honing it at the moment. This includes examples from other woodlands to show how all woodlands are not the same. That woodland seems like a breath of fresh air after looking at the efforts of Denbighshire CC with loggerheads where the forester seems to be required to work with one arm tied behind his back.

It is mine yes and I'm always looking for new paths to tread and woodland pics to take, and am not proud to say I hadn't heard of Coed Nant Gain so I'd love to! Due to my work commitments, I am not always able to get to the Monday night meetings so appreciate any other ventures or visits to learn more and be with like minded people.
I'll give Iliff a call, thank you for the feedback and the link Eric, I appreciate it very much.

Gill I don't have any other contact details so have to contact you on here.

Just had Iliff on phone seemed you did ring him. It is Wellington job at the moment your welcome to join me tomorrow (Thursday) or Friday. Since your in Buckley I suggest you drive to my house in Bryn-y-baal and come down with me. 102 Park Ave. It's road sign posted as Sports centre from main Buckley Mold road.

My Phone 01352 756410 my email ericmark@talktalk.net mobile 07968 239050 there is no mobile coverage at Coed Nant Gain.

We hope the gain stream will drop in level over next few days as we have a visit by Deeside College on Tuesday and Wednesday. The upper area was not accessible yesterday. Once you have visited once an Iliff knows you then you can return on your own.

I must point out the woodland is being returned back to nature as much as he can. Just a helping hand to counter what man has already done or counter for it's small size as only 20 acres. So branches can fall from dead standing trees and even whole trees can fall so we do not tend to visit in high winds. Impossible to insure against risks.

Yes email address is correct. Also have gw7mgw@hotmail.com maybe the file is just too big. Under useful-website-links Chris Noble has given www.wetransfer.com as way to transfer up to 2Gb files. Never tried it but seems comes highly recommended by Andy Polakowski!

gw7mgw@googlemail.com
ericmarkpalmer@yahoo.co.uk

Are also valid addresses for me, but ericmark@talktalk.net is the one most people use.

For other who read the site the method given by Chris Noble www.wetransfer.com as way to transfer up to 2Gb files. coming highly recommended by Andy Polakowski worked. Full marks to both.

It would seem Gill Henry had missed one picture reducing size which caused the problem. Easy done but resulted in a far bigger file than expected.

Gill's photos are now at http://www.freetheforest.org/CNG10h.html and they are rather good I must say.

It does show how good the forum is even if not as originally intended to be used.

The whole photographic side of Iliff's web site is now in my hands. I would welcome any photos taken to include in the web site.

Iliff did have problems with the web masters in showing the submitted photos within a reasonable time. I would hope now I am doing the web site this has been corrected?

So I will invite any member to email me images of Coed Nant Gain to be included on his web site even if over a year old. Many images lost as a result of the Ruthin web masters slow response.

As Mold Camera Club we have a special relationship with Iliff and Coed Nant Gain and I can arrange visits should any members wish it. Pamela was unable to go to last event due to her operation and I fully intend to arrange another visit as soon as she is well enough.

So if anyone wishes to go to Coed Nant Gain please let me know. The web site I control is at http://freetheforest.org and as a Camera Club Member any images submitted by club members will be included on the web site.

Iliff may not agree with this but I have the access codes so he does not really have much to say about this the images will be used.

There isn't one! We used to do them weekly most of the time but I haven't heard or seen anything about when the next one will be on.
It used to be listed in the scrolling banner at the top when the next one was and who was hosting it

In the past the winner would be asked which day they wanted and would select the day then the admin would start the challenge off with winner taking over with subject.

As far as I am aware there is nothing to stop me posting it all myself and I can if wanted put up the subject next Thursday (Wednesday Radio Club Dinner).

If some one can say what they want on Monday then I will do as requested. In the past it was found at one a week we had just the core 2 or 3 people taking part that's how I managed to win! So a larger gap was used so we had at least half a dozen taking part. So if not every week then maybe first or last Wednesday or Thursday in the month.

At least people would remember that way. Normally there would be scrolling flyer on top of page to say when next event. Think best I talk to Bart (Paul Harper) as he seems to be running it all.

Eric get my name right! It's Ned not Bart.
With all the events around this time of year I have held back on initiating another Challenge. Maybe we should have them in the calendar like the Comps??
Will see on Monday how much demand there is and book in a date for you to host it!!! Get ready!
Regards
Ned
