More Information

Post by Chris Noble on Wed Oct 13, 2010 11:35 pm

Location
The Jubilee Tower is located at grid reference SJ161626, at the heart of the Moel Famau country park. The main event will be taking place in the top cark known as Bwlch Pen barras with entertainment and activities for all, starting at 14:00. At 16:30 the procession will begin to the summit of Moel Famau where the remains of the Jubilee Tower lie. There will be a laser show, exciting performances, light projections and spectacular fireworks!

What’s on

Exhibition
At Bwlch Pen Barras car park there will be a small exhibition about the Jubilee Tower and its history as well as some of your memories and photos from the workshops. If you would still like to contribute to the workshops please go to our ‘share your memories page’ (link). There will also be various activities and entertainers in Bwlch Pen Barras car park starting from 14:00.

Procession
The procession will take begin at 16:45 on Sunday 24th October. There will be activities and entertainment at Bwlch Pen Barras car park as we gather for the procession and there will be a lantern parade to guide walkers back to the base.

Light InstallationLocal artist Chris Oakley has been commissioned to create a striking light installation to illuminate the tower. The installation will involve a vertical beam of light, visible during the hours of darkness. The four sides of the tower will be lit with video projection illustrating the historical and contemporary meanings of the tower, using images and text created through a number of community workshops.

Fireworks
A spectacular firework display will be the grand finale of this remarkable celebration, which is due to take place at 18:30 before the lantern parade back to the base.

Lantern Parade
On the way back we would like walkers carry some form of light to create a movement of light parading from the Tower (no naked flames please!). A series of lantern making workshops will be taking place leading up to the event. The lantern parade will start at 18.30 leading walkers back down to the base.

Live Music
From 14:00 onwards there will be an exciting mix of live music from local bands to the amazing alpine horn! Not only will there be live music, but street dancing and circus entertainment.

Food and Drink
From 14:00 there will be a range of locally sourced food and drink available at Bwlch Pen Barras car park before the procession begins at 16:45 to the summit. At the summit there will also be hot food and drink available from Caffi Florence to keep you all nice and warm!
