Text brought over from Chatbox

Post by Chris Noble on Fri Dec 10, 2010 8:35 am

[19:02:35 09/12/10] Chris Noble : Testing for tonight's challenge
[19:04:18 09/12/10] Chris Noble : Back at 7:30:silent:
[19:34:18 09/12/10] Chris Noble : Do we have to wait until 8pm?
[19:35:26 09/12/10] Andy Polakowski : No, the original went out at 7 or 730
[19:37:05 09/12/10] Andy Polakowski : steve has normally produced something by now
[19:38:49 09/12/10] Chris Noble : He's waiting until 8pm - Bet everybody's got the same idea
[19:39:14 09/12/10] Andy Polakowski : Should be a quiet night then - good because I'm building a 75 bottle wine rack and it's all over the place
[19:41:55 09/12/10] Chris Noble : Aly tells me Corrie has just been mentioned in Eastenders
[19:43:30 09/12/10] Chris Noble : Nice one Ang - Does that mean we can all stop now
[19:43:51 09/12/10] Andy Polakowski : Confirmed: Dot is staying in to watch it (!)
[19:45:17 09/12/10] Andy Polakowski : I like pandering to the judge and so I should point out that my wine rack isn't full yet . . .
[19:51:50 09/12/10] Chris Noble : Sounds like it's not built yet ... and I doubt if it will ever stay full.
[19:56:05 09/12/10] Andy Polakowski : It' flat out on the kitchen floor at the moment, which is where I'll be if I ever fill it
[20:06:32 09/12/10] Steve Jones : Where is everyone tonight?
[20:07:13 09/12/10] Steve Jones : What is Corination Street?
[20:07:57 09/12/10] Steve Jones : I may not go for the Marmite shot tonight!
[20:10:00 09/12/10] Steve Jones : Ang has made me confess - the 50 shot by Ang was from me, I thought I was logged in; wrong it was Ang logged in. We need another PC!
[20:13:10 09/12/10] Steve Jones : Andy - would that be Red wine?
[20:14:59 09/12/10] Chris Noble : Just working on a couple now
[20:15:27 09/12/10] Andy Polakowski : Red, White, Pink not Blue (Nun)
[20:20:35 09/12/10] Paul Harper : HELP!!! My brain hurts
[20:21:08 09/12/10] Ian Parker : Mine simply isn't working
[20:22:17 09/12/10] Andy Polakowski : Don't panic, over an hour to go
[20:26:41 09/12/10] Andy Polakowski : Good, the rack is now standing up - next job is to screw it to the wall, 6 feet up
[20:32:59 09/12/10] Chris Noble : ^ feet is not high enough to make it difficult to get a bottle
[20:34:42 09/12/10] Andy Polakowski : How high can't you reach then?
[20:36:11 09/12/10] Chris Noble : Leave it on the floor and after a few bottles I wont be able to reach it
[20:37:21 09/12/10] Andy Polakowski : Our last one was 7 feet up so that I could have complete control of my "cellar"
[20:38:38 09/12/10] Chris Noble : Complete control and alcohol - good plan
[20:41:18 09/12/10] Andy Polakowski : Actually I should have said "thought" I could have complete control
[20:41:49 09/12/10] Chris Noble : Not those red pants again?
[20:42:02 09/12/10] Andy Polakowski : How high should a cellar be above ground?
[20:43:01 09/12/10] Andy Polakowski : Ah the red pants, another good reason to have a cellar up in the air
[20:44:27 09/12/10] Steve Jones : I keep the Guinness and wine on the middle shelves - that way no stretching!
[20:46:19 09/12/10] Andy Polakowski : Marmite on the bottom shelf?
[20:48:19 09/12/10] Steve Jones : How the heck did you know that?
[20:49:31 09/12/10] Steve Jones : Just supping a pint of Bovril, yum, yum!
[20:49:57 09/12/10] Andy Polakowski : I could picture you bending
[20:50:19 09/12/10] Andy Polakowski : . . . . cyclist style
[20:51:10 09/12/10] Chris Noble : Dont need to be reminded of people bending - thank you
[20:51:48 09/12/10] Andy Polakowski : Paul's picture shows that things are hotting up
[20:52:45 09/12/10] Andy Polakowski : So what's on the top shelf Steve, that Ang can't reach - it's not your "private papers" like the newsagent has is it?
[20:56:25 09/12/10] Andy Polakowski : I've weighed up the situation with this wine rack and I've decided against any drilling, plugging and screwing tonight
[20:59:19 09/12/10] Chris Noble : Carful Andy - Don't want to strain anything (especially seams).
[21:01:14 09/12/10] Chris Noble : Is Mike planning to be late again?
[21:01:19 09/12/10] Andy Polakowski : You know mw, I don't do anything strenuous with my trousers on . . . .
[21:02:00 09/12/10] Andy Polakowski : . . . . I always wear shorts (or knickerbockers)
[21:03:31 09/12/10] Andy Polakowski : Haven't had a peep from Mike so he's probably trying to get the dog to do something it's not used to doing
[21:04:46 09/12/10] Chris Noble : That poor dog - Does Mike believe because he won the first ....
[21:05:07 09/12/10] Chris Noble : ... with a dog picture they all have to be gog pictures?
[21:05:23 09/12/10] Chris Noble : not gog I meant dod
[21:06:49 09/12/10] Chris Noble : Barbie Steve? Might explain a few things. LOL
[21:07:21 09/12/10] Steve Jones : Top shelf - Bovril
[21:08:22 09/12/10] Steve Jones : Yeh, I did ask Ang if she would pose for me as Barbie - she was not polite with her reply!
[21:08:58 09/12/10] Chris Noble : I see those that didn't want the challenges on Wednesday evenings have turned out in force
[21:09:26 09/12/10] Steve Jones : RIGHT ON!!!!!
[21:09:48 09/12/10] Steve Jones :
[21:11:30 09/12/10] Andy Polakowski : Same old, same old?
[21:11:45 09/12/10] Chris Noble : Where's Mike's Dog?
[21:12:11 09/12/10] Andy Polakowski : I thought it was in deference to me as Wednesday night is Apprentice night
[21:13:43 09/12/10] Chris Noble :
[21:13:57 09/12/10] Chris Noble : You're Fired
[21:15:06 09/12/10] Mike Catania : Evening chaps. Which pillock came up with that title!
[21:15:40 09/12/10] Andy Polakowski : I'm that pillock!
[21:16:24 09/12/10] Andy Polakowski : It was goiung to be called "50 YEAR OLD SOAP"
[21:16:55 09/12/10] Chris Noble : It's nearly as bad as Mixing It Up
[21:17:57 09/12/10] Mike Catania : Right having caught up with the drivel, you will be glad to know no dog was hurt in the taking of tonight's pics.
[21:18:36 09/12/10] Mike Catania : .... and I'm not late!
[21:20:21 09/12/10] Chris Noble : 10 minutes left
[21:21:45 09/12/10] Andy Polakowski :
[21:22:07 09/12/10] Mike Catania : Yeah! A lot easier when you are setting the topic!
[21:22:13 09/12/10] Chris Noble : Andy's found the smilies !!!
[21:22:23 09/12/10] Andy Polakowski : Sorry, just trying out emoticons, not something I use normally
[21:22:48 09/12/10] Andy Polakowski : Anyway, I've got to judge this
[21:23:06 09/12/10] Mike Catania : Just nipping down for a beer, not even said hello to the kids, in from work straight to the computer...
[21:23:24 09/12/10] Chris Noble : You mean Dad
[21:26:09 09/12/10] Andy Polakowski : Poor dog
[21:28:19 09/12/10] Steve Jones :

Re: Forum Challenge - Thursday 9th Dec 2010

Post by Andy Polakowski on Fri Dec 10, 2010 8:50 am

It wasn't an easy one but it was appropriate somehow and we've had a bit of fun on the ChatBox which fortunately isn't saved anywhere.

I liked Ang/Steve's quick association of theme and judge with the cycling anniversary. Steve's kitsch anniversary figures made their mark also.

Paul would no doubt have cloned more candles given time and I liked his twist on the theme with the wooden log.

Chris's stationery involved some work and creativity and linked to one of the key shops in Coronation Street.

Ian's Ferrari fooled me at first as I thought it was meant to be doing 50mph but is a good still life that needs the title to make its point.

Mike's rings are beautifully photographed and hint at the theme, probably the best image in the competition, just what we expect from him (or his dog).

Ken's image from the TV of tonight's 50th Anniversary is subtlely simple but there are technical difficulties to be overcome in matching the shutter speed to the TV's scan rate and also in picking the right moment. As Chris noted Ken Barlow, who's been in the show from the very first episode, is at a significant place in the design, at the foot of the dying (?) man's hospital bed.

I wasn't going to award the win to anything straight off the TV but the winner is in fact Ken Sweetman for doing it so completely.

Well done everyone.

Sorry I missed this last night. A combination of taxiing and then crashing out on the sofa due to being poorly Sad

Some really good interpretations of the theme. Looks like you all had fun. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with for the next one Ken. And well done on your win in your first forum challenge.
